Guided trips with Apex Anglers –apexanglers.com
Met up with AJ of Apex Anglers and Chef Dan on the beaches of New Jersey to do some shark fishing one night last week, this would be the last trip for each of us for 2016 and AJ wanted to catch 12 sharks to bring his season tally up to 200 for the season. We caught 10 sharks this night and missed/lost a few others so although we didn’t get the 12 we still had a great time catching sometimes 2 at a time for the few hours we fished. The hot bait was fresh caught dogfish and chunks of silver eel from the grocery store.
Shark Tackle: 10′-12′ surf rods capable of throwing 6-10oz
Spinning Reels with adequate drag sizes 8000-14000
50lb-65lb braided line
6′-9′ of 150lb+ mono shock leader
5-8oz pyramid sinkers
10/0-14/0 3x hooks
These sharks arrive in our waters in the early summer and stick around until after labor day, right now is one of the best times to fish because the shore traffic of summer is gone, water is still warm, and not many are still fishing. The sharks will stick around into october some years but generally up until mid september is best.
