What do you think this First Time Striper Fishing the Cape Cod Canal and Maine video?
I was planning on making a trip to maine with Tan after hearing of great striper fishing up there (“the best in 20 years”), but the night before we were about to leave we heard the bite was going off in the canal so had to change plans… Tan was 100% not into going to the canal so Kenny and I ditched him and got into a good bite in the early morning, but by 9am it had gone pretty dead. We fished all around the rest of the day, took a nap somewhere in between, but by the end of the day we got nothing else. The bite was a shadow of what it was the day before, and with the next day being a saturday which would likely mean huge crowds, we decided to trek it north to maine and do some exploring. We fished a bunch of different areas in southeast maine and ended up getting skunked. We did see some cool stuff though which is why I included it in this video, first a seal who seemed to have been hit by a great white (which for the more sensitive viewers, might not want to watch, but know that we told a warden about it who most likely saved it) and next was an inlet full of leaping sturgeon and salmon. After we left that inlet we did not see another fish, as we worked our way south, stopping at a few different spots before reaching the canal again… I always enjoy fishing new water, this trip was a good time despite most of it being pretty futile..
The rod I used in the canal is a 12′ star 3-10ozamzn.to/2fvEZys
and reel was a shimano speedcast 1400 (Id leave a link for this but the reel is straight trash unless you’re using it for some elementary level fishing like maybe fishing for small catfish from a boat or something, I don’t encourage anyone to buy this reel)
