December 9th, 2020 (Session 80) – This video is Episode 1 of my 2020 December Florida Fishing Trip. In it, I explore a new fishing spot, and fish some bridge pilings at the Intracoastal Waterway. Read more about it below:
Did you know that…?
🚤…The Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) is 3,000-miles (4,800 kms) long!!! It runs all the way from Boston, Massachusetts to the Southern tip of Florida, following the Atlantic Seaboard. And then, it goes all the way to Brownsville, Texas, following the Gulf Coast. The waterway has different names along its way; however, it is all connected into one big “canal.”
🚤…Up to this YouTube video (December 23rd, 2020), I have caught 33 different Species in the Intracoastal Waterway. Some notable catches include my first ever Flathead Grey Mullet (Mugil cephalus), and Dog Snapper (Lutjanus jocu). Some interesting catches include the Atlantic Croaker (Micropogonias undulatus) andthe Oyster Toadfish (Opsanus tau). And I have even landed Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) from the Intracoastal before, in South Carolina’s brackish waters.
🚤…The unofficial Northern Terminus of the Intracoastal Waterway is actually the Manasquan River in New Jersey, where it connects with the Atlantic Ocean via the Manasquan Inlet. Thus, since the whole thing is connected, theoretically speaking, a fish COULD swim all the way from the Manasquan River in New Jersey to the Gulf of Mexico, around Brownville, Texas. That’s pretty wild, huh?!
